Convex drawings of hierarchical planar graphs and clustered planar graphs

چکیده
Hierarchical graphs are graphs with layering structures; clustered graphs are graphs with recursive clustering structures. Both have applications in VLSI design, CASE tools, software visualisation and visualisation of social networks and biological networks. Straight-line drawing algorithms for hierarchical graphs and clustered graphs have been presented in [P. Eades, Q. Feng, X. Lin and H. Nagamochi, Straight-line drawing algorithms for hierarchical graphs and clustered graphs, Algorithmica, 44, pp. 1-32, 2006]. A straight-line drawing is called a convex drawing if every facial cycle is drawn as a convex polygon. In this paper, it is proved that every internally triconnected hierarchical plane graph with the outer facial cycle drawn as a convex polygon admits a convex drawing. We present an algorithm which constructs such a drawing. We then extend our results to convex representations of clustered planar graphs. It is proved that every internally triconnected clustered plane graph with completely connected clustering structure admits a convex drawing. We present an algorithm to construct a convex drawing of clustered planar graphs.

Planar Drawing of Clustered Graphs
Graphs are often used to represent relational information. As the amount of information that we want to visualize becomes larger and more complicated, classical graph model tends to be insuucient. In this paper, we introduce and show how to draw a practical and simple graph structure known as clustered graphs. We present an algorithm which produces planar, straight-line, convex drawings of clus...

∗ Corresponding author. Abstract In this paper we introduce an application of genetic algorithms (GAs) with the problem of drawing of level planar graph or hierarchical planar graph, and explore the potential use of GAs to solve this particular problem. Given a l evel planar graph, we want to find a geometric position of every vertex (layout) in a straight-line grid drawing without any edge-int...
متن کاملBeyond Outerplanarity
We study straight-line drawings of graphs where the vertices are placed in convex position in the plane, i.e., convex drawings. We consider two families of graph classes with nice convex drawings: outer k-planar graphs, where each edge is crossed by at most k other edges; and, outer k-quasi-planar graphs where no k edges can mutually cross. We show that the outer k-planar graphs are (b √ 4k + 1...
متن کاملStraightening Drawings of Clustered Hierarchical Graphs
In this paper we deal with making drawings of clustered hierarchical graphs nicer. Given a planar graph G = (V,E) with an assignment of the vertices to horizontal layers, a plane drawing of G (with y-monotone edges) can be specified by stating for each layer the order of the vertices lying on and the edges intersecting that layer. Given these orders and a recursive partition of the vertices int...
متن کاملConvex Drawings of Hierarchical Plane Graphs
This paper proves that every internally triconnected hierarchical plane graph with the outer facial cycle drawn as a convex polygon admits a convex drawing. We present an algorithm which constructs such a drawing. This extends the previous known result that every hierarchical plane graph admits a straight-line drawing.
